END OF END OF YEAR!

A huge thankyou to everyone who got their books back for stocktake.  Congratulations to ROOM 9 who once again were the winners of the Ice Block challenge !
Commiserations to ROOM 8 who were a close second with only one book outstanding.

The Book Parade was held on Wednesday and what an amazing array of Story Hats we had!  The super students at Tawa School never fail to impress me with their creative talent.
This year the fabulous students in Room 4 stepped up to do all the jobs and they were brilliant.
We had Hazique and Liam on Music/Video, Michaela and Olivia presenting, Bethany, Aidah, Sophie and Grace on decorating, and our judges this year were Devon, Timera, Halen, Lulu, Lochie and Maggie.  Judging the hats is a really hard job and I was very impressed with how well they performed this task.

Juniors winners:  Best hat: Isla from Room 16         Most Original: Emma from Rm 14
Middles Winners: Best Hat: Leo Room 10               Most Original: Shylah Room 12
Seniors Winners:  Best Hat: Layla Rm 4                  Most Original: Carter S Room 2

End of Year: 2017

It's hard to believe that we are almost at the end of another year. We still have a few events before we can hang up our book bags and relax by the pool (well, maybe an indoor pool in Wellington...)
Here are the Library events you may need to be aware of:

BOOK CLUB issue 8 closes tomorrow... this is the LAST Book Club order for 2017. Remember you can order and pay online at https://mybookclub.scholastic.co.nz/Parent/Login.aspx

You can order online after tomorrow but if I have closed the online orders  then you will need to have your order sent to your home address and they do charge postage for this. (It is very reasonable).

ICE BLOCK CHALLENGE
The first class (or half-class for Rooms 2, 4, 10  12 and 16) to return ALL library books by 4 December wins Ice blocks.
Please help your lovelies to win this by encouraging them to find and return all books.
LOST books can either be replaced with another copy of the book OR pay $20 per book to the school office
a good place to buy books online, with free postage, is the Book Depository website. Here is the link:

https://www.bookdepository.com/

DONATIONS of books are always welcome! Please call or email me if you would like to donate a book.                 2326453 extension 704        amarsden@tawa.school.nz

BOOK CHARACTER PARADE: STORY HATS  will be held at 11am in the Hall on Wednesday 6 DECEMBER. Students and staff will parade their wonderful creations and there will be PRIZES for best and most original creations. this year our judges will be some of our very responsible Intermediate students. Kapi Mana News has been invited to send a journalist.

LIBRARY PARTY: (combined with Road Patrol Trip) Thursday 7 DECEMBER. Lunch Librarians/Resource Room angels go to Tawa Pool then come back for the party. CLASS Librarians join us for the party lunch and DVD.

A huge thank you to those wonderful parents who have helped their children to enjoy and look after their books.  please keep reading to and with them through the holidays.  We are very lucky to have Public Libraries close by,  plus some excellent Op Shops where you can pick up books for as little as 20 cents. (and donate to charity AND recycle ...win win!)

May you all have a safe and blessed holiday season.

TERM 4 2017

Welcome to term 4. Well, that was a flying visit to Europe in more ways than one! We managed to see and do a lot in a very short space of time!
Being away from NZ always makes me appreciate what a wonderful  (and safe) country we are blessed to live in. I was amazed by several things: the  number of police and army personnel on patrol everywhere.; how quickly things change as you cross the border into another country; the number of people begging; the size of the apartment blocks; how fast the trains can go!

Today the Seniors had a visit from local author JULIETTE MACIVER,  who wrote the Marmaduke Duck books (amongst others.) There are pictures of the visit at the end of this blog.

Here are some upcoming events:

BOOK CLUB ISSUE 7 is open and closes on 1 November

LIBRARY CLOSES FOR YEAR on THURSDAY 30 NOVEMBER. All books need to be returned by this date. There will be the usual ICE BLOCK challenge...first class to have all their books back will win ice blocks.

BOOK PARADE
This term we will be holding our annual Book Character Parade on 6 DECEMBER. This year the theme is "Story Hats". Students are asked to make or renovate a hat that tells a story. For example, It could be a hat worn by a book character, or it could have book characters on the hat...you are only limited by your imagination!
Students are welcome to wear a full costume but Judging will be done on what is on top of their head!

LIBRARIANS' and ROAD PATROLLERS' TRIP AND PARTY   will be held on 7 DECEMBER. More information to follow. (This is for Lunch Librarians/Resource Room Monitors only.)

A lovely sunny afternoon at Tawa School. Here are some of the students from Room 9 enjoying reading in the sun while sitting on our very popular GIANT cushions.
