TAKE A SHELFIE competition



A shelfie is a selfie taken in front of your favourite bookshelf. This could be anywhere... at home, at the public library, at school... Take a photo. Email it to me amarsden@tawa.school.nz by 1 September and you could win a prize!  All Shelfies are being displayed on the library windows.

The Library will be CLOSED for the last week of term so please make sure you get books out for the holidays in WEEK 9.

BOOK CLUB has now closed. All orders have been placed and should arrive at school within the next week.

The latest LIBRARY COMPETITION centres around Matariki. Students need to make a star. 2D or 3D. I am looking for creativity and colour!  The stars will be displayed in the staffroom for the Staff Matariki Dinner on 3 July. There will be PRIZES for the best stars.  Closes next THURSDAY 29 June.


  

             SCHOOL HOLIDAYS.....AWESOME  FREE CITY LIBRARY EVENTS

Beyond the Page is an exciting children’s and youth literary festival taking place during the July school holidays in over 24 venues within the Greater Wellington region.

Some key events feature:

·         Sir Jon Trimmer – tales from the Royal NZ Ballet
·         Des Hunt writing workshops
·         Fifi Colston - wearable arts demonstrations
·         Robots
·         Jo Morris - creative writing
·         Escapemate - immersive & interactive story creation
·         Te Reo Wainene o Tua -  Te Reo Māori storytelling kaupapa.

All events are free and aimed at children and young people aged 5 to 18 years.  See details below.

Wellington City Libraries, Hutt City Libraries and Upper Hutt City Library have been organising an exciting children’s and youth literary festival called Beyond the Page. This festival opens on the 8^th of July and will take place over the two weeks of the July school holidays (8-23 July 2017), in over 24 venues in the Wellington region.  Beyond the Page will lead children and young people on a journey through different aspects of storytelling, creating experiences for them to immerse themselves in and express their creativity.

The festival is aimed at the 53,000 children and young people aged five to 18 in the Greater Wellington region. The purpose of this festival is to embrace all literacies including digital literacy and to enhance these experiences for both children and youth across the region. We plan to do this by offering them the tools, people and spaces for open exploration and engagement with literacy.

There will be a wide variety of events drawing from a pool of local artists as well as national figures. Some of our key events include: Royal New Zealand Ballet story times, writing workshops by the 2017 Storylines Margaret Mahy Medal award winner - Des Hunt, wearable arts demonstrations with Fifi Colston, robots, creative writing with Jo Morris, immersive & interactive story creation in collaboration with Escapemate, as well as Te Reo Wainene o Tua who will deliver a Te Reo Māori storytelling kaupapa. All our events are free.

Beyond The Page would love it if you were able to help spread the word to children and youth in your local area and schools, as well as friends, colleagues and family. We do hope you will be able to come to some of our exciting events

LIBRARY COMPETITION  suitable for Middles and Seniors...  design a POSTER advertising your favourite book, book series or author. Minimum size A3.  The aim of the poster is to make others want to read the book!  Make it eye-catching with lots of colour and not too many words.  Entries close Friday 24 March.

                                  BOOK FAIR NEWS

A HUGE THANKYOU to everyone who supported the Book Fair this week.   I wish I had some photos to share but I was just too busy to stop and think of doing such an important thing! (sigh)
For those of you who were lucky enough to meet Geronimo Stilton and even get a selfie with him... I can now reveal that he was actually a she... two of my wonderful librarians, Lulu and Millie, took turns at sweltering in the costume on what must have been our warmest days this Summer! Well done, girls.
You may also have been served at the Fair by another of my librarians, Flynn, who did an excellent job running the desk for me and managing the cash and eftpos.
Accolades also to my husband Lindsay who came in after work and took over from Flynn at the desk, then helped pack up the Fair that night as the truck was coming before 8am on Wednesday!

I am thrilled to announce that we sold over $3500 worth of books. We earned over $1000 worth of books for the School Library!

Congratulations to our two LUCKY DRAW winners, Lachlan from Room 14 and Bethany from Room 4. They have been given $50 vouchers to spend through the Book Club.
